Welcome to the Digestive Diseases Center, Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital Official Webpage.
This is a brand-new hospital of Showa University which opened in March 24, 2014. Showa University has more than 90-year history with 7 affiliated hospitals including us.
In our Digestive Diseases Center at Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital, we aim to provide the state-of-the-art treatment for patients suffering from various digestive diseases. Our team expertise covers a wide variety of gastroenterological and GI-surgical diseases, including esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer, hepatobiliary carcinoma and inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Our tumor board team consists of clinical oncologists, radiologists, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, endoscopists, and surgeons who discuss cases from a multidisciplinary point of view and recommend the best treatment options for advanced cancer patients.
If gastrointestinal cancer is found in the early stage, it can be cured by endoscopic (non-surgical) resection. Our endoscopists are keen to establish minimally invasive treatment for various gastrointestinal diseases. In terms of EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection), we are one of the pioneers in this field (Cap-EMR, 1993). This has advanced to ESD (Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection). Numerous EMR/ESD procedures are carried out as a daily part of our clinical practice. A world-famous endoscopic procedure, POEM (Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy), was developed by our team in 2008 and first reported in 2010.
Most digestive surgery in our center is performed by minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopic surgery, thoracoscopic surgery, endoscopic surgery, or a combination of these procedures). We have a strong collaboration with industries to create an ideal endoscopic surgery system. In order to complete this mission many expert surgeons and gastroenterologists work together as part of a single medical unit.
